Sustainability on the urban agenda is the theme of the next Sustainable Economic Development Forum.

The event will take place on March 1st in the auditorium of the Youth Center, and will feature a lecture by the ICLEI South America Project Manager, Sophia Picarelli.

Following the events of the Sustainable Economic Development Forum, which have discussed the future of the city, on March 1st, IPPLAN – the Institute for Research, Administration and Planning – and the City Hall of São José dos Campos will hold another meeting that will bring important contributions to thinking about the city in 2030.

The theme of the Forum's next event will be "Sustainability on the Urban Agenda," and the objective is to promote the exchange of ideas and discussions to develop a future agenda that incorporates the principles of sustainability into its ideal of development. The event is free, with limited spaces, and will take place in the auditorium of the Youth Center.

Lectures

One of the highlights of the event will be the participation of the international network of cities ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability. Sophia Picarelli, Project Manager at ICLEI South America, will speak about the 10 sustainability themes that make up the ICLEI Urban Agenda and about the importance of the “Copact of Mayors,” of which São José is a part, in mitigating and monitoring greenhouse gas emissions.

The second lecture will be given by Regina Alvalá, Coordinator of Institutional Articulation at Cemaden – the National Center for Monitoring and Alerts of Natural Disasters, located in São José dos Campos since 2014. The discussion will be moderated by André Marques, President Director of Agevap – the Association for the Management of Water Resources in the Paraíba do Sul River Basin.
Following the speakers' presentations, there will be a workshop-style discussion for all attendees on the topics presented.

In addition to the event on March 1st, the Forum will hold another meeting in March, on the 16th. The theme will be Regional Economic Development: Challenges and Opportunities of an Integrated Strategy, and it will take place at the São José dos Campos Technology Park. Information about the program and registration will be released soon.

What is the Forum?

The Sustainable Economic Development Forum is promoted by IPPLAN and the Municipality of São José dos Campos as part of a series of debates about the city's future, with the goal of producing a medium/long-term development agenda. At the end of the debates, approximately in April 2016, IPPLAN will present studies of prospective scenarios for the city over a 20-year horizon.

In 2015, the Forum events laid the groundwork for discussing the city's future, framing development discussions within a global and national context, then addressing local realities from the perspective of important local institutions, and finally analyzing major trends that could impact the future.
