The event will feature climatologists and international organizations, and will also host a meeting of Environment Secretaries.

This Monday (13), climatologist Carlos Nobre – president of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Panel on Climate Change and member of the group of scientists of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), will be in Salvador to discuss the impact of climate change on cities. Nobre, who coordinated the National System for Alert and Prevention of Natural Disasters in Brazil, will speak about Climate Change and Cities, at 9:30 am, at the Sheraton Hotel da Bahia, in Campo Grande.

The lecture, which is part of the seminar "Climate Change and Brazilian Capitals," is integrated into the program of... 9th National Meeting of the Forum of Secretaries of the Environment of Brazilian Capitals CB27. The event will feature researchers from various international organizations, including C40, the Rockefeller Foundation, WRI, and ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability. More than 20 Secretaries of the Environment from Brazilian capitals, representatives from ministries, civil society organizations, and the mayor of Salvador, Antonio Carlos Magalhães Neto, have also confirmed their attendance at the Forum.

Contributions

During the event, local government networks will deliver to the Ministry of the Environment a document containing their contributions to the implementation of Brazil's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The NDC is a document drawn up by signatory countries, committing to promoting the reduction of carbon emissions through targets and measures that promote sustainability and environmental preservation. The focus of the contributions lies in financing climate action in cities and recognizing the role of urban centers in this agenda.

History

The Forum of Secretaries of the Environment of Brazilian Capital Cities – CB27 was created during the process of preparing the cities for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), in May 2012, with the objective of promoting political coordination and cooperation among the capitals, focusing on the issue of addressing climate change.

The event is organized by CB27, the Municipality of Salvador, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS), and ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability. Invited partners of the Forum include the CP40 network, the international organization CDP, and the international research institution World Resources Institute (WRI).
