How can we ensure that Amazonian wood, produced responsibly, is seen as a tool for the conservation of ecosystems and biodiversity? What difficulties do entrepreneurs face when buying legal and certified wood? What is the government's role in promoting the responsible use of wood? Why do architects use so little wood in their construction projects?

To answer these questions, the seminar “Advances and Challenges of Amazonian Tropical Timber” will be held on December 3rd in the auditorium of the Construction Industry Union of the State of São Paulo (SindusCon-SP), in the city of São Paulo. This event is the result of four years of the Forest Governance and Sustainable Trade of Amazonian Timber Project, which was funded by the European Union and had the cooperation of WWF-Brazil, FGV, and the Friends of the Amazon Network, whose main objective is to contribute to the conservation of the Amazon Rainforest through the promotion of sustainable forest management and the trade of timber products through procedures that regulate timber production, acquisition, and control.

The European Union financed €1,719,040 million of a total of €2,148,000 million for this Project, which also aims to increase the total volume of timber from the Amazon Basin from legal and sustainable sources, through the implementation of appropriate sub-national responsible procurement policies.
