2nd Workshop of the LEDS LAC Regional Platform

On December 4th, 5th, and 6th, 2013, the 2nd Workshop of the LEDS-LAC Regional Platform was held in Lima, Peru, with the participation of the Executive Secretary of ICLEI SAMS, Florence Laloe. The Regional Platform for Latin America and the Caribbean is a community of practice that seeks to develop the exchange of experiences and best practices, participate in capacity-building processes, establish collaborative and working links, and find innovative ways to achieve low-carbon development.

The event, hosted by the Government of Peru, took place jointly with InterCLIMA 2013, and provided a forum for Latin American leaders, international organizations, and experts to exchange experiences on reducing GHG emissions in the pursuit of more resilient actions to combat this problem.

The meeting featured several presentations on the state of the art in resilient and low-carbon development, paradigms in the field, as well as solutions for a sustainable world, inspiring stories, and new pathways for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Peru.

On the second day, five parallel conversations were held, divided into sub-themes, featuring experts focused on processes, lessons learned, and foundations for implementing low-carbon development. Florence Laloe, Executive Secretary of ICLEI SAMS, moderated the panel on 'Sub-national Planning Integrated with National Planning', which included presentations from ECLAC; the Centre for Economics and Policy on Climate Change at the University of Leeds; and ICF International.

The Regional Working Group for Latin America and the Caribbean (LEDS LAC) is part of the Low Emission Development Strategies Global Partnership (LEDS GP), founded in 2011, of which ICLEI is a member.
