Belo Horizonte (MG) will host the forum “Urban Life: Reflections on the Future of Cities” on November 17th and 18th. The meeting, organized by the National Front of Mayors (FNP) in partnership with the city government, aims to promote discussions on contemporary issues inherent to urban sustainability and the resilient way in which cities can be planned.

In addition to mayors, deputy mayors, parliamentarians, municipal managers, and representatives of municipal organizations, researchers, technicians, academics, social workers, and businesspeople are also expected to attend. The expectation is that the debates planned for the two days of activities will stimulate the participation and engagement of public officials and the community in actions aimed at improving the quality of life in cities and in broader UN events.

The program focuses on new solutions for improving the urban environment, emphasizing challenges from the global scale to the local dynamics of urban life. Topics covered in eight panels include “Urbanity in Informal Settlements,” “Mobility Beyond Transportation,” “City Financing,” “Challenges for the Future of Cities: Towards COP 21,” and “Municipal Master Plans.” The results of the Forum's discussions will also serve to prepare for the IV Meeting of Municipalities for Sustainable Development (EMDS), the largest urban sustainability event in the country, in April 2017. The official launch of the meeting took place on October 8th in Brasília (DF).
