The capital of Rondônia is eager to welcome associates, partners, and guests to an event that promises to be historic. 2nd ICLEI Amazon Regional Meeting It is a milestone for the achievement of 1st Porto Velho Sustainability Forum, the second session of 2023 of Forum of Pan-Amazonian Cities (FCPA) and the Amazon Regional Meeting of the CB27 Forum. This involves a combined effort to mobilize and engage Amazonian cities in discussions about sustainable economic development, encouraging local governments to take a leading role.
To allow an even wider audience to participate, the event will feature simultaneous broadcast on YouTube channels of ICLEI South America and from Porto Velho City Hall. With diverse and relevant content, the event promises to provide valuable insights into sustainable development in the Amazon.
There will be three days dedicated to discussing essential topics and proposing solutions:
- We aim to stimulate cooperation between territories for the development of the Amazon Region.
- Let's talk about governance for expanding the participation of Amazonian cities in the ACTO (Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization).
- We will bring Amazonian cities closer to national and international entities, facilitating access to training and green financing lines.
- Let's discuss the challenges and opportunities for Amazonian cities in relation to the COP30 in Brazil, in Belém, 2025.
- We want to move forward in implementing the UN's urban agenda (UAA) and towards improving the qualifications of local governments in relation to the SDGs.
- Together, we will address the engagement of indigenous peoples in international agendas such as the COPs on climate and biodiversity, and listen to their rich experiences in promoting entrepreneurship and the bioeconomy in the region.
We have a lot of work to do in this important common goal! Our meeting in the Amazon brings great joy and responsibility to ICLEI, in this constant journey of mobilizing local governments – in this case, the Legal Amazon and Pan-Amazon region – and high-level representatives from various levels of government, highlighting the participation of the Minister of Cities, Jader Filho. This large group will lead the debate on current and essential issues for the Amazonian context, under the premise of sustainable economic development. It will be a great joy to see Porto Velho take a leading role in transforming the municipality into the epicenter of discussions on the main issues for the sustainable economic development of the Amazon region.
