At least 87 practical actions can be adopted immediately by municipalities and society across Brazil to reduce greenhouse gas emissions where they actually occur: in the cities. A new platform launched this Friday, August 20th, provides a list of actions suitable for each emitting sector and city size.
The SEEG Solutions platform, available for consultation on the SEEG website (seeg.eco.br), was built based on a diagnosis of emissions from the 5,570 municipalities in Brazil carried out this year by SEEG. The public policy proposals presented on the platform were mapped after a series of workshops in the five regions of Brazil, which included the participation of a hundred specialists – from municipal managers to researchers, representatives of the private sector and civil society.
Each of the main sectors and subsectors responsible for greenhouse gas emissions in the Brazilian economy (transport, electricity, land use change, agriculture and waste) has been given a series of fact sheets describing public policies, type of financing, application timeframe, impact on emissions and co-benefits, among other aspects, always seeking to show practical examples from the real world.
