In recent weeks, the Secretariat of the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP) oversaw elections for the 3rd Steering Committee, the Pact's governing body.
The city of Belo Horizonte was re-elected to the Steering Committee of the Pact and will represent South America for the next two years, along with the city of Rosario (Argentina).
The Steering Committee's role is to lead the Milan Pact in its mission to transform urban food systems, supporting signatory cities and providing strategic oversight. It is the body that decides on internal rules, reviews the work program, approves the criteria for selecting the host city for the Global Forum, and collaborates in developing the main themes to be discussed in the forums.
Furthermore, the Committee engages signatories in its region in cooperation initiatives, advocating at the regional and international levels for the role of cities in transforming the food system and promoting knowledge sharing.
The Steering Committee is composed of 13 members:
- Africa: Antananarivo (Madagascar) and Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso);
- Asia-Pacific: Bandung (Indonesia) and Seoul (South Korea);
- Europe: Barcelona (Spain), Birmingham (United Kingdom) and Milan as president (Italy);
- Eurasia and Southwest Asia: Kazan (Russian Federation) and Tel Aviv (Israel);
- North and Central America: Mérida (Mexico) and New Haven (United States);
- South America: Belo Horizonte (Brazil) and Rosario (Argentina).
On April 14th, the newly elected Steering Committee met virtually for its first meeting.
