The city of Rio de Janeiro is one of the oldest members of the ICLEI Network, joined in 1992. Throughout this journey, he developed several projects, participated in important events, and received support for the creation of programs to promote sustainable urban development. 

As part of the progress made by the city, it has been selected as a satellite city for the Urban-LEDS Project. Through the same project, it received financial support for a demonstration program in Sustainable Schools, enabling the installation of hybrid solar and wind energy generators in six schools.

 Furthermore, Rio de Janeiro was included in the Waste Management project, launched the Sustainable Schools project, and participates in the CITYFOOD platform.

In 2021, she developed collaborative work with ICLEI regarding the Forum of Secretaries of the Environment of Brazilian Capitals – CB27, whose national coordination is led by Rio de Janeiro. In addition, she had representatives from the Rio de Janeiro City Hall at COP26, participating in the event: “Crossed Dialogues: a multi-level conversation between the Brazilian executive and legislative branches on COP26 and the implementation of the climate agenda”.
