The city of Avellaneda, The municipality, located in the province of Santa Fe and with more than thirty thousand inhabitants, has developed strategies and actions to combat climate change. This is reflected in its commitment to the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) and in its participation in the 25th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP25), held in Madrid, Spain.
The city has been associated with ICLEI since 2019 and was selected to participate in the 100% Renewable Energies: Cities and Regions Roadmap project. In this context, it prepared an initial status report describing local energy consumption and available potential renewable resources as a starting point for planning the path to renewable energy.
Avellaneda was chosen as a model city for the 100% ER Project. In its role as process leader, it will develop a Georeferenced System (GIS) and receive support from the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) in developing energy demand scenarios, assessing renewable energy potential, and modeling cross-sectoral energy scenarios based on 100% renewable energy sources.
Within the framework of the Transformative Actions Programme (TAP), the city developed the project "Avellaneda for sustainable and low-carbon mobility".
In 2020, Avellaneda participated in the Daring Cities global forum, intervening in a debate on climate neutrality and renewable energies.
