During the event's closing plenary Resilience School, carried out by Mercociudades On 28 October, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially signed between ICLEI South America and the Latin America and Caribbean office of Resilient Cities Network.
With the establishment of the agreement, Rodrigo Perpétuo, Executive Secretary of ICLEI South America, and Eugene Zapata-Garesché, Global Director of Strategic Partnerships at the Resilient Cities Network and Head of Latin America and the Caribbean, agree to a collaboration aimed at supporting Latin American and Caribbean cities in building a more resilient and sustainable future.
To accelerate the transition to resilient and sustainable cities, the two organisations will join forces to raise awareness, share information, and facilitate bilateral cooperation in fulfilling a vision of cities, regions, and territories becoming more resilient to acute shocks, such as climate disasters, and chronic stresses, such as poor housing quality or continuous dry periods.
The collaboration is supported by Chief Resilience Officers (CROs) from across the region, including Adriana Campelo, CRO of Salvador (Brazil), and David Groisman, CRO of Buenos Aires (Argentina), both of whom are members of the Global Steering Committee of the Resilient Cities Network.
