With the intention of developing a more inclusive, green, resilient, and low-carbon Salvador, the City Hall The city has made available to the public the virtual public consultation process for the Municipal Plan for Adaptation and Mitigation to Climate Change (PMAMC). The document will be accessible until October 5th on the city's website. Secretariat for Sustainability, Innovation and Resilience (Secis).

On the page, any citizen can submit their contributions regarding actions related to mitigation (carbon neutrality), adaptation (resilience to climate risks), and the identification of social benefits (climate justice) through a form.

The PMAMC is the climate action plan for the municipality of Salvador, whose purpose is to build a trajectory for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and improving the city's adaptation to climate change. The proposed actions should be short, medium, and long term so that the city can increase its resilience and fulfill its commitment to carbon neutrality by 2049, in accordance with the Paris Agreement.

Participation

Initiated in January 2020, the PMAMC has gone through several stages and is now making its preliminary version available for analysis and contributions from civil society. According to the technical team responsible for the project, more than 40 consultations and events were held throughout the process, with over a thousand participants and more than 400 contributions.

The Municipal Plan for Adaptation and Mitigation to Climate Change is financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), through Prodetur Salvador, with support from C40, the German Cooperation Agency GIZ, and developed by a consortium composed of WayCarbon, ICLEI, and WWF. All the work was carried out by professionals with extensive experience in climate action plans, notably Carlos Nobre, one of the world's leading climatologists.
