On Tuesday, September 29th, in Brasília, the SOS Mata Atlântica Foundation and ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability signed a Cooperation Agreement that foresees the Municipal Plans for the Atlantic Forest as instruments for local governments to meet the Aichi Targets.

Approved at the 10th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP-10), these targets aim at concrete actions to halt the loss of planetary biodiversity and represent an effort by civil society to adapt to climate change.

The signed agreement provides for mutual collaboration between the Foundation and ICLEI, with a view to developing joint actions among Brazilian municipalities aimed at biodiversity conservation, using, among other mechanisms, support for the development of different strategies and local action plans for biodiversity, such as the Municipal Plan for Conservation and Recovery of the Atlantic Forest (PMMA).

As stipulated in the Atlantic Forest Law, the PMMA (Municipal Plan for the Atlantic Forest) is the instrument that allows municipalities to assume their share in protecting this important forest.

Partnerships with organizations and municipalities are integrated into the Foundation's Program to promote PMMAs (Municipal Plans for the Amazon). Learn more about the SOS Mata Atlântica Foundation's work with these plans in this [link/section/etc.]. link.
