Located in the state of Minas Gerais, Nova Lima joined ICLEI in 2021, At the time, it made a commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, by committing to the Race to Zero campaign. The municipality will also host the 1st Annual Meeting of the ICLEI Minas Gerais Office in 2022.

Nova Lima's anniversary is celebrated on February 5th.
