ICLEI and FAO Extend Deadline for Selection of Cities for Urban Food Systems Project

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations – FAO extended the deadline for the Call for Proposals for the project “Multi-stakeholder Dialogues on Urban Food Systems in the Global South (Africa and Latin America)” this Friday (11/03). Cities with up to 1 million inhabitants, which are committed and engaged with the development of public policies related to food systems, have until 11:59 PM on March 31st to apply.

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to participating in project activities (which will be mostly virtual) by means of Letter of Adherence signed by the Mayor. Participation in ICLEI and FAO initiatives, prior membership (or commitment to join) Pact of Milan and Glasgow Declaration will be considered differentiators.

The objective of the initiative is to promote technical exchange and the sharing of experiences on urban food systems through multi-sectoral dialogue. The 10 selected municipalities will form a network to develop and implement public policies aimed at sustainable, circular, fair, and resilient food systems.

The team responsible for implementing the Multistakeholder Dialogues will be active throughout 2022 in the selected cities. Among the proposed actions are two webinars for exchanging experiences and two meetings Online about urban food systems, among other activities.

The results will be incorporated into the project's publications and upcoming regional or global scale events, such as COP27, which is due to be held in Egypt in November.
