Over the next days, 23 and 24 April, ICLEI will participate in the II Seminar and Workshop “Metropolitan Policy: Governance, Instruments, and Metropolitan Planning”, which will take place in Brasília. The event, which has the institutional support of ICLEI, aims to foster and deepen the debate on the metropolitan territorial policy agenda within the scope of the formulation and approval of Integrated Urban Development Plans (PDUIs) in the metropolitan regions and urban agglomerations of Brazil.
It will also evaluate the panorama of Urban Development and Planning Instruments (PDUIs) and governance for their implementation in development by a set of metropolitan regions in Brazil, in addition to specifically debating funding strategies for metropolitan policy, and deepening the analysis of the leading role of municipalities in the metropolitan agenda and the role of the legislature in the current phase of reviewing the Metropolis Statute (Federal Law No. 13.089/2015) with Provisional Measure No. 818/2018.
Through the moderation of the “Environment, Sanitation and Water Resources” workshop, ICLEI will highlight the need for integrated planning with natural elements, as it has been doing in the metropolitan regions of Campinas, Belo Horizonte, and Londrina through the INTERACT-Bio project. In the workshop, the three metropolitan regions will be present and share in more detail their experiences with the local implementation of the project.
The seminar is organised by Casa Fluminense, Cities Alliance, National Confederation of Municipalities, IABsp, INCT, IPEA, Instituto Pólis, Metrods and WRI-Brasil.
