2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the Sustainable Public Procurement (SPP) Programme of the global network ICLEI. Throughout the year, ICLEI will showcase achievements made with its partners during this period and the organisation's role in this highly relevant topic.
In these 20 years, ICLEI has been promoting sustainable development through the introduction and expansion of more sustainable and innovative products by the market, and developing methodologies and tools, offering technical support to managers, sharing content and good practices, and encouraging the development of public policies on the subject. One of the milestones of ICLEI's work in this area is the methodology Procura+.
ICLEI South America has been working on the subject for over 10 years, and during this period has had the engagement of important federal and state bodies and cities. In addition to disseminating ICLEI's Sustainable Public Procurement methodology in the region, ICLEI SAMS has also developed various materials on the subject, such as the Guide to Sustainable Public Procurement for Federal Administration; Sustainable Procurement: The power of public and business consumption for a green and inclusive economy; besides the latest version of Procura+ Manual: Guide to Implementing Sustainable Public Procurement released last year.
The official launch of the 20th Anniversary will take place during the 8th European Conference on Sustainable Cities and Towns, between April 27th and 29th, 2016. http://conferences.sustainablecities.eu/basquecountry2016/
