The state of Minas Gerais It joined ICLEI in 2007. A year earlier, it participated in the II International Conference on Green Procurement, held in Barcelona, Spain, where the most advanced global practices on sustainable public procurement were presented. 

Also in 2006, the state participated in the pilot project called "Promoting Sustainable Public Procurement in Brazil," which aimed, among other things, to channel all available knowledge to promote sustainable public procurement.
