ICLEI and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation launch publication to inspire sustainable cities in Latin America

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation and ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability launched at COP 20 of the UN Climate Change Conference in Lima, the publication “Urban Sustainability: Experiences in Latin America”, with 10 concrete cases of Latin American cities seeking sustainability.

The material presents 10 thematic case studies on sustainable cities, with each featuring a report from a city in our network within the region: San Rafael de Heredia, Costa Rica; Curitiba, Recife and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Mexico City, León and Toluca, Mexico; Medellín and Bogotá, Colombia; and Lima, Peru. Among the 10 themes covered are Urban Mobility, Sustainable Consumption, Biodiversity, and Waste Management.

“We are immensely grateful to the City Councils that shared their experiences and to the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, a partner in the publication. Latin America is at a crucial tipping point, a time to rethink our development model. Fostering the spread of good ideas and best practices that can inspire sustainable actions in our cities is one of the goals of the ICLEI Network. We are sure that the cases in this publication serve as an indicator of the wealth of actions implemented by the cities in our network, and we look forward to all opportunities to share them,” said Bruna Cerqueira, Manager of Policy and Strategy at ICLEI South America, during the launch.

The publication was launched on 9 December 2014 in Lima, at the recently concluded UN Climate Change Conference, COP20, during the Pacific Alliance Local Actors Symposium for the Exchange of Good Practices in Climate Change Management. The symposium was organised by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and INICAM.
