O Project “Circular Cities Lab 2.0”which begins in March and runs until May, aims to identify and prioritise circular development opportunities in the municipality. The The registration period begins this Friday (25/02) and runs until 23:59 on March 11th. Cities with up to 500,000 inhabitants that are affiliated with ICLEI and whose annual fees are up to date can participate in the Public Notice.
Only one municipality will be chosen and will have access to an online tool, which is based on socioeconomic data and the resources available in that region, equipping the selected city with practical solutions for the transition to implementing actions that foster a circular economy. To this end, the city will participate in a mapping process of actions, challenges, and opportunities that will support the testing of the methodology to improve the tool, which will be developed and adapted for the South American context.
To ensure the tool can be adapted to different regional contexts and needs, ICLEI specialists tested the model in 10 pilot cities across three regions of the world. The analysis provided an overview of how and how much resources are consumed and wasted, and in which sectors interventions can be made.
The project is funded by MAVA Foundation and implemented by ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, Circle Economy, Metabolic e Ellen MacArthur Foundation and is based on Circle City Scan tool prototype.
Among the selection criteria are the municipality's engagement with public policies related to the circular economy (which is characterised by the rational use of natural and renewable resources, respecting the cycle of sustainability and resilience) and commitment to participating in the Circular Cities 2.0 Laboratory activities, through Letter of Adhesion of accession signed by the Mayor.
