ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations – FAO launched, this Friday (25/02), a Call for Projects for the “Multi-stakeholder Dialogues on Urban Food Systems in the Global South (Africa and Latin America)” project. Cities with up to 1 million inhabitants can participate, which are committed and engaged with the development of public policies related to food systems.
Candidates must ddemonstrate commitment to participation in project activities (which will be mostly virtual), by means of Letter Membership signed by the Mayor. Pparticipation in ICLEI and FAO initiatives, prior adherence to (or commitment to adhere to) Pact of Milan and Glasgow Declaration will be considered differentiators. The deadline for applications closes at 11:59 PM on March 10th.
The objective of the initiative is to promote technical exchange and the sharing of experiences on urban food systems through multi-sectoral dialogue. The 10 selected municipalities will form a network to develop and implement public policies aimed at sustainable, circular, fair, and resilient food systems.
The team responsible for implementing the Multistakeholder Dialogues will be active throughout 2022 in the selected cities. Among the proposed actions are two Experience-sharing webinars and two meetings Online about urban food systems, among other activities.
The results will be incorporated into the project's publications and upcoming regional or global scale events, such as COP27, which is due to be held in Egypt in November.
