ICLEI

UIIF - Urban Infrastructure Insurance Facility

UIIF It is an international platform implemented by ICLEI that links urban climate risk analysis with innovative financial solutions, including parametric insurance and regional risk pools. It supports 10 cities in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the goal of mobilizing €100 million in insurance products for climate risk management. In Argentina, participates the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA).

Components:

  • Integrated risk analysis, considering threats, exposure, vulnerability and potential losses.
  • Modeling of physical and financial damage scenarios in the face of extreme weather events.
  • Evaluation of institutional capacities for disaster response and recovery.
  • Design of roadmaps that articulate urban resilience with innovative financial instruments.
  • Development of parametric insurance adapted to specific urban contexts and integrated into regional risk pools, with a partial subsidy of premiums by KfW during the first three years.
