ACCESS - Accelerating access to low-carbon urban mobility solutions through digitalization

ACCESS It is a regional platform of ICLEI focused on the digitalization of urban mobility and sustainable logistics. Its objective is to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and local pollution from the transport sector—one of the main contributors to urban emissions—through the use of digital tools for the efficient management of urban mobility and logistics.

Components

  • Digitization of fleet management and urban logistics, through real-time tracking tools and dynamic routing, aimed at optimizing routes, reducing kilometers traveled, fuel consumption and associated emissions.
  • Intelligent management of urban space for logistics, through digital solutions for reserving and monitoring loading and unloading spaces, in order to reduce road congestion and emissions from inefficient practices such as double parking.
  • Analysis and processing of mobility data, using open source platforms that integrate information from public transport systems and mobility as a service (MaaS), to generate origin-destination matrices and evidence for decision-making.
  • Support for the development of subnational plans and policies, focused on the creation of regulatory frameworks for sustainable urban logistics, including Low Emission Zones (LEZs) and new urban distribution models, such as cross-docking and last-mile logistics.

Implementation period

2024–2029

Funders

ACCESS It is a project funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Government.

Implementing organizations

Implemented by eight partner organizations, led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), in six Latin American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru).

In Argentina, The implementation of ACCESS is led by the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy (WI), in collaboration with UN-Habitat, the Urban Electric Mobility Initiative (UEMI) and the ICLEI Network – Local Governments for Sustainability.

Territory where it is implemented:

Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.
