Avellaneda has been selected as a model city for 100% RE!

The 100% Renewable Energies: Roadmap for Cities and Regions project, which supports cities and regions in implementing climate measures by developing a roadmap for renewable energy, has selected the city of Avellaneda as a pilot city for activities promoting the supply of renewable energy in Argentina.

The selection was based on the city's political commitment and its capacity to plan and manage actions related to renewable energy. Furthermore, Avellaneda is a small but influential city in the region; it is the regional capital. Reconquest – Avellaneda, which positions it as a facilitator in the dissemination of learning to other cities.

Through the 100%RE project, Avellaneda will have the support of the Fraunhofer Institute for the modeling of its local energy system. 

The other cities in the project – La Plata and Rosario – will form a thematic community of good practices of local governments for the exchange of experiences, peer learning and training.

Start

On May 14, the Kick-Off meeting took place virtually, due to the context of the new coronavirus pandemic.

The meeting aimed to present the project to the model city working group, understand the local energy scenario; present the assessment of strengths, weaknesses, challenges and opportunities, validate the stakeholder mapping; and involve the other cities, as well as actors from the Province and the national government.

In addition to the representatives of the municipality, actors from the private sector were also present; from the National Directorate of Renewable Energies, of the Ministry of Productive Development of the Nation; from the Secretariat of Ecosystem Development and Climate Change, of the Ministry of Environment of the Province of Santa Fe; and the focal points of La Plata and Rosario.
