AirView+

O Air View+ This is a global initiative developed by Google in partnership with Aurassure Brazil and ICLEI South America to expand air quality monitoring in urban environments. The solution combines environmental sensors installed at strategic points in cities, such as municipal schools and BRT stations, with real-time data analysis platforms to generate hyperlocal information on air pollution. In Brazil, the project supports municipal administrations in formulating evidence-based public policies in the areas of health, urban mobility, and climate resilience.

Most Brazilian cities lack dense atmospheric monitoring networks capable of identifying variations in air quality at the neighborhood or street level. This gap compromises the formulation of integrated public health, territorial planning, and climate adaptation policies. Air View+ addresses this need by generating reliable and accessible environmental data on a hyperlocal scale, strengthening the institutional capacity of municipalities to support decisions and articulate mitigation strategies.

Components:

  • Installation of environmental sensor networks for continuous air quality monitoring at strategic points in the urban area;
  • Digital platform for visualization and monitoring of data in real time by municipal managers;
  • Control panels and technical reports for decision-making in public policy;
  • Environmental alert system and air pollution trend analysis;
  • Integration of environmental data into municipal monitoring and urban planning systems;
  • Integration of participating cities into a global network of over 150 municipalities that use technology for air quality management and climate resilience.

Implementation period: 2025 – ongoing

Funders: Google

Implementing organizations: Google; Aurassure Brazil; ICLEI South America; partner municipal governments

Territories where it was implemented: Recife (PE) – the first capital city in the Northeast to adopt the technology, with sensors installed in municipal schools; Salvador (BA) – cooperation formalized by Cooperation Agreement No. 104/2025 between the City Hall and ICLEI, with a sensor installed at the Vasco da Gama BRT Station; Rio de Janeiro (RJ); Belo Horizonte (MG) and Curitiba (PR)
